While the famous website development tool has been at the heart of a controversy for several months now, this new announcement could be a revival for the company.
Automattic, the company that publishes the website creation solution, has also just announced massive layoffs that could harm the company. However, thanks to artificial intelligence, it is possible that WordPress will finally emerge from this crisis and return to the forefront.
Conversational website creation
If website creation was until Currently reserved for developers, this may no longer be the case in the very near future. In its new AI-powered website builder feature, WordPress should allow users to create a site with a chatbot.
Available free of charge to all WordPress users, this new feature aims to create a fully laid-out site with unique images and text, without touching a line of code.
As other development tools like Bolt emerge on the market, this is WordPress's way of showing that the company knows how to adapt to technological developments...
WordPress catches up with its competitors
Although the 16% of employees laid off at Automattic a few days ago had caused a lot of noise in the tech world, this new feature announces a new battle in CMS (Content Management System).
Indeed, competing solutions like Wix and Squarespace have already integrated AI into their functionalities, this should help WordPress to catch up.
Furthermore, with modules around AI that have been developed in the WordPress ecosystem, the company intends to show that it also wants its share of the cake.
A new economic model for WordPress?
This new functionality, although it is accessible for free at all new WordPress users, requires a subscription to be put into production.
With prices that fluctuate between 48 € and 300 € per year depending on the nature of the website, WordPress is making a 360° turn in its economic model. Indeed, the features that integrate AI will only be accessible to users with a Premium subscription at 96 € per year.
To justify this price, WordPress specifies that this subscription includes website hosting, storage space, and even a free domain name for the first year.
