The announcement of Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2 surprised quite a few people. And for good reason: despite all its qualities today, the game retains a complicated reputation, particularly because of its chaotic launch on PS4 and Xbox One. So naturally, some players raised a worried eyebrow. But CD Projekt Red wants to be clear: this time, there's no question of repeating the mistakes of the past.
Yes, everyone is still thinking about the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077
Even though Cyberpunk 2077 has been extensively patched and improved since 2020, its image remains scarred. At the time, the PS4 and Xbox One versions were so buggy that they had to be pulled from sale for a time. Today, even with all the patches and Phantom Liberty as reinforcements, some players remain wary. So the idea of seeing the game arrive on a Switch 2, a machine often described as "equivalent to a PS4" has logically revived some concerns.
To avoid any panic, the Polish studio has spoken out. According to Tim Green, engineer at CD Projekt, the team was able to build on a solid base, that of the reworked versions of Cyberpunk 2077. He specifies that the adaptation for the Switch 2 has of course its challenges, but that everything has been made to respect the original vision of the game without degrading it. A speech that seeks to reassure those who fear a "cut-price" version.
Reasonable technical objectives
Concretely, Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 should aim for 1080p in docked mode and 720p in portable mode. Better yet: DLSS will be used in portable mode to ensure smooth play. In other words, CD Projekt Red promises a complete and stable experience, without the compromises that plagued the old-gen versions.
This release of Cyberpunk 2077 is far from trivial for CD Projekt Red. After the enormous crisis of confidence suffered in 2020, each new project is scrutinized. Achieving a clean launch on Switch 2 would be a true symbol: proof that the studio has changed, that it now knows how to anticipate, test, refine... In short, that it has turned the page. Conversely, another failure could reopen fresh wounds.
