We can't really say that the news took us by surprise given the leaks that had already announced it loud and clear: Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting a port to Nintendo Switch 2. More precisely, the complete edition of the game that will arrive on the new hybrid machine, therefore including the Phantom Liberty DLC. After an announcement trailer during the Nintendo Direct, a player shared a first glimpse of the console in hand... and it goes without saying that the result was unexpected!
Cyberpunk 2077, the good surprise on Nintendo Switch 2?
The big news was confirmed at the beginning of April, during the full presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2. CD Projekt will offer a port of Cyberpunk 2077, its latest hit game, to the console. However, the few clips shown at the time did not suggest a particularly impressive version. It must be said that the game is very demanding in terms of performance. Therefore, we know that we will not have a rendering similar to that on PS5 or Xbox Series. We are not even talking about the PC comparison.
However, the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 could create a surprise. Internet user Deck Wizard had the opportunity to try it and shared the video of his gameplay on YouTube. We see him playing in nomad and, against all expectations, the fluidity is much better than we would have believed. The demonstration is done in performance mode, therefore aiming for 40 FPS continuously, a bet that seems to have been generally achieved despite activating HDR.
What's more, to optimize in-game performance, Cyberpunk 2077 will offer several graphics settings on Nintendo Switch 2. The video shows the performance differences with these various options (motion blur, grain, chromatic aberration, etc.) enabled and disabled. Overall, the game runs smoothly and looks good.
Ultimately, this first concrete preview will have to be compared to a portable version of Cyberpunk 2077: the Steam Deck. However, it could well be that the Switch 2 offers a more visually and technically pleasing experience than on Valve's machine. If the promise is kept, Nintendo's new console could really stand out with its catalog of third-party games.
