Cyberpunk 2077 is already a big first for the Nintendo Switch 2

We knew it was in the works, but this time, it's official: Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable on Nintendo Switch 2, in its Ultimate Edition. Better still, it will be the very first confirmed game to use DLSS technology on Nintendo's future console. An important step, both for the game and for the machine.

A key tool for the Nintendo Switch 2 on Cyberpunk 2077

DLSS (for Deep Learning Super Sampling) is a technology developed by Nvidia. It allows you to improve a game's resolution without impacting its performance, thanks to artificial intelligence. Rather than running a title natively in 4K, which requires a lot of power, DLSS allows, for example, a Cyberpunk 2077 game to be rendered in 1080p and then intelligently upscaled to a higher definition.

On paper, this is already impressive. But in the case of the Switch 2, which remains a portable console above all, it is an essential lever for running ambitious games like Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will use DLSS in both handheld and docked modes. Two profiles will be available: Docked: Quality Mode: 30 FPS Performance Mode: 40 FPS (requires a 120Hz display) Handheld: Quality Mode: 1080p at 30 FPS Performance Mode: 720p at 40 FPS This flexibility shows that the game has been specifically adapted to the Switch 2 hardware, which features an Nvidia GPU with Tensor Cores (for DLSS) and RT Cores (for ray tracing). A first for a Nintendo console.

A technical demonstration ahead of its time

The fact that Cyberpunk 2077, long considered too demanding for older-generation consoles, can run on Switch 2 is in itself a strong signal. This shows how big the technological gap between the current Switch and its replacement will be.

And while this version won't rival the PS5 or PC versions visually, the simple fact of offering a smooth and complete mobile experience will be a strong argument. Nintendo finally seems ready to attract a more tech-savvy audience, without denying its DNA.
