The series Daredevil: Born Again has just concluded on Disney+. An exciting first season brought the characters of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, along with their actors Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, back into the spotlight. We hope to see them again soon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Unfortunately, things are going to be much more complicated than expected regarding Vincent D’Onofrio...
Why won't Vincent D’Onofrio be able to appear in the next Avengers?
After the end of Marvel's Daredevil in 2015, we wondered if we would ever see the excellent Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio again in the roles of Daredevil and Caïd. With time, and a lot of patience, Marvel Studios ended up recovering these two cult characters to officially insert them into the MCU. Thus, Charlie Cox made several appearances, in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in Echo in She-Hulk: Attorney and in Your faithful servant Spider-Man before making his big comeback in Daredevil: Born Again.
Regarding Vincent D’Onofrio, he also reprised the role of Wilson Fisk in Hawkeye and in Echo before returning in Born Again. For the moment, besides season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, it is not known where We're going to see these two iconic characters again.
It's rumored that Daredevil could appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and potentially in the next two Avengers from the Russo brothers. Unfortunately, for Vincent D’Onofrio, things are more complicated.
Indeed, during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz Vincent D'Onofrio was asked if there was a chance he would appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day to oppose Peter Parker. Unfortunately for the fans, this confrontation is not likely to happen...
The only thing I know is that the answer is no... It's very complicated for Marvel to use my character. It's a question of rights and ownership, and it complicates things a lot. Currently I can only appear in television series. Even a solo Fisk movie wouldn't be possible, or anything like that. Everything is blocked because of rights. I don't know when, or even if it will ever be fixed.
A revelation that breaks our hearts as Vincent D'Onofrio exudes something totally iconic and unprecedented in the role of the Kingpin. Indeed, the actor has established himself as a character of rare power within an MCU where all the villains are interchangeable. The Kingpin has incredible cinematic potential, and he would have been a perfect fit as Spider-Man's antagonist in the fourth installment of the franchise. Bad news that also affects the next two Avengers. Because of these legal and rights issues, Vincent D'Onofrio won't be able to participate in the Russo brothers' huge party. An aberration, especially in relation to the character's trajectory in Born Again, which is becoming increasingly important.
In any case, it is still the observation of a paradox between Marvel's ambition to connect everything and the reality of the industry, which is sometimes mired in endless legal wrangling...
