Pedro Pascal reveals his inspiration for playing Reed Richards
At the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Pedro Pascal gave an interview to ComicBook.com and discussed his character Reed Richards. The actor, who also plays Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, explained that he favored the superhero's intelligence rather than his famous elasticity and he also revealedhis strange inspiration for slipping into the role:
With Reed, his body can stretch but he's a cerebral character. I'm going to reveal it to you completely. I thought of the genius of an octopus. Not literally, but I integrated it into my subconscious. Yes. It's the biggest secret I've revealed to you on a character.
By drawing inspiration from the octopus, this extremely intelligent cephalopod, Pedro Pascal seems to have wanted to explore the intellect of his character rather than focusing solely on the physical abilities of Reed Richards. This interpretation will really contrast with previous ones that struggled to combine these two aspects of the superhero. Reed Richards' intelligence has been a key element since the character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1961.
To see Pedro Pascal's performance in Fantastic Four: First Steps, head to the cinema on July 23, 2025.
