Forget Bioshock 4, this game will blow everything away when it comes out.

It's been five years since BioShock 4 was announced, and 12 years since Infinite was released. That doesn't make us any younger. While we wait for new signs of life from Cloud Chamber and 2K, a new immersive FPS sim heavily inspired by this monument of the genre has released a particularly enticing trailer. However, there's one small drawback: the release window is still a long way off. Welcome to Brightville!

A very serious new competitor to BioShock 4 and Judas Unveiled

This is indeed the name by which this new title is known. More precisely, in the language of Shakespeare: Welcome to Brightville, developed by the apparently independent studio Contrast Games. The latter was entitled earlier in the week to a first announcement trailer which already makes us very eager. In any case, we find a great inspiration from the canons of the immersive sim genre that are System Shock, and especially BioShock. Namely an atmosphere that is both dark and colorful, in a city with a neo-baroque style mixed of cyberpunk with the most beautiful effect and populated by wacky machines that wander the streets, controlled by an all-powerful AI.

Other points in common with games such as BioShock: a first-person view, and a wide range of skills and powers that can be combined and therefore offer great freedom of approach to the players. In this short three-minute video, we see for example our character, a robot free from the influence of the AI that dominates the city, decked out in gauntlets capable of casting different spells like an electric arc or energy crystals. We can also opt for stealth. In any case, Contrast Games claims that the world and NPCs will react to our actions and choices, to offer an experience as immersive and unique as possible. Welcome to Brightville also flatters the retina with superb lighting effects and reflections in a city, pardon the expression, between tradition and futurism.

Unlike BioShock 4, Welcome to Brightville also has a definite advantage: an already advanced exit window. However, you will have to be patient to try it, since it will not arrive until 2027 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. Staying on the theme of immersive sims, let's remember that another very promising game should be coming out soon: Judas. This title, published by Take Two and developed by Ghost Story Games, is of great interest to us. This is particularly true because its director is none other than Ken Levine, the father of the legendary first BioShock games. You couldn't make this up.
