Samsung is preparing its next folding smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7, the successors to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. While nothing official has yet been revealed by the brand, several rumors from reliable sources already allow us to establish the beginnings of a composite portrait of these devices. Here is a complete summary. We will endeavor to update it as leaks occur.
Design: greater finesse
For once, we already have a small idea of the future design thanks to Onleaks, in collaboration with Android Headlines. Below are the 3D visuals produced by the leaker, starting with the Fold.
At first glance, this Z Fold 7 looks like a Z Fold 6. But according to the information that accompanies it, Samsung has finally found a way to slim down its book-sized smartphone. In the unfolded position, its thickness would be 4.5mm, which would put it far from the 5.6mm of its predecessor. Above all, Samsung would finally be competing on an equal footing with the Chinese giants in the sector, who have had the unfortunate habit of outperforming the market leader in this area for several years. For reference, the Oppo Find N5 measures 4.35mm thick. Samsung might not be the thinnest, but it would finally be in the game with enough thickness to not give the impression of being left behind.
The second major change would concern the screen size. As you can see above, the Z Flip 7 also seems to be heading towards a carbon copy of the Z Flip 6. But what we don't necessarily see in the image is that the size of its external screen could evolve, going from 3.4 inches to 4 inches.
The Z Fold 7 for its part is closer to the dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition and its internal screen of 8 inches in a format approaching a square.
Specifications: improved photo and optimization of the formula
In terms of photography, the Z Flip 7 is expected to remain unchanged. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, on the other hand, could see its photo capabilities improve. More specifically, the main sensor would change, going from 50MP to 200MP.
A leak from early February, coming very early in development, claimed that many small optimizations would be expected. Here they are:
- A more efficient screen and therefore potentially better battery life
- Improved dust and water resistance
- An improved hinge
- An improved under-screen camera.
Charging still slow
While the Galaxy A56 has switched to 45W charging, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are expected to remain at 25W. To give some perspective, let's remember that the Xiaomi MIX Flip and the Honor Magic V3 both come in at around 67W.
Interface: the first ones under One UI 8 (Android 16)
Samsung has some issues with One UI 7 (Android 15). While Android 16 is expected to be rolled out in May 2025, the Korean company has not yet released Android 15 on most of its fleet. Fortunately, Samsung is making up for it with One UI 8 (Android 16) by rolling out the new version of the interface this summer on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7.
Generally, Samsung releases an intermediate version of its interface for its foldables, like One UI 6.1 last year. Releasing a major update to its foldables could give the release a good boost.
Price and availability
Traditionally, Samsung unveils its foldable smartphones around the summer. For the past two years, the Seoul-based company has targeted July, but previously, the Z Flip and Fold were released in August. We can therefore expect the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 to be released between July and August 2025.
As for pricing, no information has been released yet, but we can base our guess on the prices of the previous generation. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Flip 6 started at €1,199 for the 256GB version. Regarding the Galaxy Z Fold, Samsung has raised its prices to 1999 euros for the Z Fold 6 while the Z Fold 5 was sold for 1899 euros.
