We felt the announcement was coming, especially with recent job offers confirming the game for 2025. It's now a reality, Ghost of Yotei will arrive on PS5 on October 2. Sucker Punch is revealing today new information, a new trailer and confirming the release of a collector's edition of the game.
Ghost of Yotei: The Onryō List
Ghost of Yotei will offer you a story that will not be linked to that of Jin Sakai. On the other hand, Sucker Punch wants to offer us an even greater experience. We discover a little more today, notably about the story of Atsu, the new heroine of this game.
More than sixteen years before the start of the adventure, in the heart of Ezo (present-day Hokkaido), a gang of outlaws, called the "Yōtei Six" sowed chaos. Atsu's family fell victim to the gang. She was left for dead, skewered on a burning ginkgo tree in front of their house.
Only Atsu survived the massacre. The latter will spend many years recovering from this attack, from this trauma, to learn to fight, to kill and to hunt, in order to return to her village with the list of the six members of the gang: the Serpent, the Oni, the Kitsune, the Spider, the Dragon and Lord Saito.
This is where our story begins, where Atsu will hunt down the members one by one to avenge her family, armed with the same katana that had nailed her to that burning tree at the time. Naturally, this quest for revenge will lead Atsu and the player to explore the Ezo region and meet many companions who will join the adventure.
Sucker Punch assures that Ghost of Yotei will bring new gameplay mechanics, improvements in the open-world with more activities in order to develop and evolve the way you can explore this open world. This was still one of the weaknesses of the first game with a rather poor and unexciting open world.
The player will be free to choose which target he wants to hunt first. Other secondary targets with side missions and quests will be available of course. The game will allow you to discover Atsu's new weapons, some of his new allies. To progress in the game, it will be important to collect bounties or even seek a sensei to learn new abilities with his weapons.
