Google Wallet adds a new, handy customization option

Google Wallet adds a new, handy customization option

Do you use Google Wallet for your transit tickets? Good news: you can now assign them a nickname. This option should make it easier for those who have a lot of cards in the app to find their way around.

Google Wallet finally lets you personalize your transport tickets

Google Wallet adds a new, handy customization option

Until Until now, managing multiple cards or subscriptions in Google Wallet could be tedious, especially for regular public transport users. By allowing you to identify a pass as "Paris Metro" for example, Google is offering an easier way to organize your wallet and recognize different cards at a glance.

A gradual rollout

As of this writing, we still don't see the option on our Google Wallet, but it is indeed being (gradually) rolled out. Our colleagues at Android Authority also note that compatibility is not yet complete: some transport tickets accept nicknames, others do not. Is this a temporary limitation, or a deliberate choice by Google? It's difficult to say at the moment. It's possible that only certain formats or providers will be supported initially.

After supporting the Aliro standard for opening smart locks, Google Wallet continues to evolve in the right direction. The application intends to centralize all the IDs and cards currently in our wallets to integrate them into the object we use the most on a daily basis: our smartphone.
