Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's comments against trans people continue to cause controversy. Following a British Supreme Court ruling on a controversial issue and the author's reaction to X-rated content, an actress from the Bridgerton series attacked the young wizard's mother.
J.K. Rowling welcomes a court ruling and provokes criticism
On April 16, the British Supreme Court ruled on a question concerning the legal definition of a woman. The UK's highest court ruled that the definition should be based on biological sex, not gender. This decision therefore excludes transgender women from this definition. While LGBT activists have spoken out, J.K. Rowling welcomed the decision.

Indeed, the writer to whom we owe the literary saga Harry Potter posted on her X account a photo of herself, cigar in mouth and a glass in hand with the message "I love it when a plan goes according to plan." A tweet published just hours after the Supreme Court's decision which did not fail to provoke a reaction from Internet users and Rowling's detractors. Not to mention that the British author also retweeted the front page of the Daily Telegraph, headlined "Transgender women are not women". Nicola Coughlan attacks J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter series Among the many people who criticized J.K. Rowling after her posts was actress Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington in the Bridgerton series. A strong supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community and a fervent advocate for women's rights, she expressed her support for the decision and launched a campaign to raise funds for the Not A Phase charity. The actress donated £100,000.

Then the Bridgerton star shared an article from The Cut titled "This is a new low for J.K. Rowling" with the caption:
Keep your new Harry Potter. I wouldn't touch it with a 20-foot pole.
Nicola Coughlan is referring to the upcoming Harry Potter series that HBO is developing. This new TV adaptation announced in 2023 is being prepared with the involvement of J.K. Rowling. This did not fail to provoke strong criticism. Part of the casting has been made official. Filming has not yet begun but the first season is expected to be broadcast in 2026.
As a reminder, the original actors of the Harry Potter saga had distanced themselves from J.K. Rowling after her anti-trans comments. Daniel Radcliffe assured that transgender women were women. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint had also expressed their support for the transgender community.
