Instagram officially launches Edits, its CapCut clone

It ultimately took Meta more than four months to perfect Edits, its CapCut clone for Instagram users. With its new video editing app, the social network is following in TikTok's footsteps. Because long before Instagram, ByteDance's platform was the first to create a video editing app dedicated to videos published on its service.

Helping Creators Create Quality Videos

By launching Edits, Instagram intends to "help Creators create quality videos" with their phones. The Edits app, which offers “all the tools you need in one app,” is available for free download on the Google Play Store and the App Store. A limited selection that could, however, quickly evolve, as CapCut, the competing application, is also available on desktop.

In any case, using Edits will only be possible if you have an Instagram account, as logging in to it is required when opening the application.

Edits will allow you to show videos by drawing directly from your photo library, but also by capturing a video on the fly from the application. Instagram imposes a maximum duration limit of around ten minutes and provides all the tools necessary for editing and creating your videos. For example, you can use AI-powered tools to animate some of your images.

Note that Edits also includes a module capable of automatically generating subtitles for your videos. As for content creators, they will be able to track the performance of videos published from the application in real time, and will also benefit from recommendations to improve them.
