Kaamelott: Alexandre Astier abandons this crazy project

Alexandre Astier gives up on this show

It's been said: 2025 will definitely be a big year for Alexandre Astier fans. Indeed, after having seen him play a secondary role in the excellent season 2 of Bref. by Kyan Khojandi and Navo, the Lyon artist will be in the voice cast of the animated mini-series Asterix and Obelix: The Battle of the Chefs by Alain Chabat from April 30, 2025, in which he plays the fishmonger Ordralfabétix. But the real event that Astier fans are waiting for is obviously the release of Kaamelott: Volume Two (Part One), scheduled for October 22, 2025 in theaters. Four years after Kaamelott: Volume One, which was a huge box office success, the public is preparing to rediscover King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table in a film that promises to be in the direct line of the excellent Book V of Kaamelott. Recently, On the occasion of a masterclass given at the Théâtre du Chéne Noir in Avignon and directed by Patrick Baud - since broadcast on his YouTube channel Axolot -, Alexandre Astier confided that he would wear a surprising costume during the first part.

However, this masterclass was also the occasion to learn some bad news; Alexandre Astier has given up on a project that was close to his heart and that he had already teased several years ago : his show about death.

I promised I wouldn't do it.[...]I wanted to get myself killed to do a show about death. And my family didn't want to. I wanted to go to Switzerland, because obviously in my stupid fantasy, the people who would agree to kill someone are in Switzerland. It's completely stupid, but since they euthanize, I would have found some kind of crazy teacher to give me a taste of death and quickly bring me back. I had started to do research on it to do a show about death and I was dissuaded from it to prevent the guy from missing out and me from coming back.

These confidences from the author of Que ma joie demeure! and L'Exoconférence are an opportunity for him to recall his way of working. "I have the impression that when you go on stage or make a film, you have to have taken a little step further than the average Joe and Joe who go to buy their tickets. You have to have come a little further to come and give an account of it." His play on Johann Sebastian Bach is the fruit of his many years at the conservatory, while the show on astronomy is the result of his many meetings with specialists. We remember that Alexandre Astier had mentioned the research and meetings he had done in anticipation of a series project on the Beast of Gévaudan.

But Alexandre Astier fans can rest assured! While the show about death is clearly no longer relevant, Simon Astier's half-brother has no shortage of projects... While working on the Kaamelott trilogy, the second part of which will be divided into two films released a few months apart, Astier also discussed Kaamelott Resistance - which will tell the story of the 10 years between the end of the series and the beginning of KV1 - as well as his planned series on the Beast of Gévaudan. He also mentioned a project on the Italian-Lyonnaise mafia.
