Behind the epic battles, shonen anime also contain some very poignant sad scenes. Saint Seiya is clearly a master in this field, with emotional moments that only this anime can offer. Here are the seven scenes that brought a tear to our eye... or more.
#1 Cassios's Sacrifice
Presented as a brute at the very beginning of the anime, Cassios turned out to have a big heart. Shaina's student thus gave it to his master by sacrificing himself in the House of the Lion to bring Aiolia back to her senses, who was under the influence of the Grand Pope. The most poignant detail here is that he did not do it for Seiya, but for Shaina. If the hero were to lose his life, she would be devastated. Cassios therefore makes a gesture of love of unparalleled purity. #2 The farewells between Camus and Hyoga Already present in the list of the best fights in anime, this farewell between Hyoga and Camus could only appear here. The master and the student each launch an Aurora Execution, plunging the temple into a freezing cold. Camus speaks his last words to an unconscious Hyoga before falling. The Swan Knight, in tears, hears these words and dedicates his last thoughts to his friend. It is simply sublime. No wonder this scene is a favorite of many fans.
#3 Ikki's Speech to Bud
The Asgard arc is deeply tragic, and it reaches its climax with Syd and Bud. The twin brothers, separated at birth, are reunited only during the last moments of one of their lives. Hatred then gives way to regret, and above all, relief. Ikki's speech, as Bud leans over his brother's body, is magnificent. It brings a moving conclusion to a fight and a resentment that should never have existed.
#4 Athena's Sacrifice
The Sanctuary section of the Hades arc is marked by a powerful sense of fate. For good reason, Athena ends her life there, much to the dismay of our heroes who have long fought for her. Yet, the most moving thing here isn't their reaction, but Saga's. Witnessing the scene firsthand, the man hands the dagger to Athena, then tries to reach his goddess with his hand without success. When you think about their story, this movement becomes extremely heartbreaking.
#5 The Wailing Wall
To reach Elysion and join Hades' body, the heroes must cross the Wailing Wall. The only way to destroy it is to use the light of the Sun. This is where the 12 Gold Saints come into play, because together, they can generate this light... but at the cost of their lives. It is therefore a painful moment punctuated by a final reunion between them and our heroes, just before the great sacrifice.
#6 The Power of Kasa
Kasa of the Lyumnades is a deceitful and heartless general of Poseidon. He possesses the cruel power to take the appearance of his adversaries' loved ones. Seiya, Hyoga, and Shun will pay the price in sad circumstances. Seiya thinks he will find his sister Seika, Hyoga faces Camus, and Shun finds Ikki. They all fall into Kasa's trap in a heartbreaking moment.
#7 Athena joins Abel
Abel's Warriors is considered the best Saint Seiya film, largely due to the melancholy that reigns there, faithful to the spirit of the original series. At the beginning of the film, Abel is reunited with Athena, his sister. We then see a rare moment where the goddess "disowns" her protectors, a shock for them, and especially for Seiya, who is totally devastated by this news. To make matters worse, Athena will lose her life while Seiya's tears continue to color, making the scene even more tragic.
