Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of story elements developed over several years, some plots have been overlooked. Indeed, some extremely important events in the MCU have taken place off-screen. This is the case with these 15 examples.

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

15) The meeting between Thanos and Loki

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

Loki is the villain of the very first Avengers. Armed with the Tesseract, he seeks to take control of Earth with an army of Chitauri. Initially, he does this simply out of resentment towards Thor and Odin. Annoyed at not getting the throne of Asgard, he attacks Earth. It is only at the very end of the film that we learn that Loki was ultimately working for Thanos. But strangely, we never learned how the two characters met and how they formed an alliance.

14) Mordo's Crusade

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

At the end of Doctor Strange, we learn that Karl Mordo decides to embark on a side quest to steal the power of other magicians. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a disinterested line confirms that Mordo and Strange clashed several times between the two films. These clashes were never shown on screen.

13) Spider-Man's Origin Story

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

Here, we're cheating a little. The origin story of the MCU's Spider-Man was portrayed in the series Your faithful servant Spider-Man. But technically, even though the plot trajectory is somewhat similar to that of Spider-Man: Homecoming, it's not the same Peter Parker. In the MCU, Peter Parker is introduced in Civil War, without his origin story being shown. It's simply hinted at.

12) Black Widow's Past

Before she joined S.H.I.E.L.D., Natasha was trained as a spy and assassin by the Red Room. A past often stated but never shown, even in Black Widow, which nevertheless develops the character further. Apart from a particularly successful episode of What If…?, we ultimately never see Natasha Romanoff evolve within the Red Room.

11) The rise of Sharon Carter

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

In Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we learn that Sharon Carter has become an important figure in crime and the black market of Madripoor. Here again, his rise to power and his advent in the criminal underworld are never shown.

10) War Machine as a Skrull

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

In Secret Invasion, we learn that James Rhodes is actually a Skrull. Except that we never know how long the Skrull has taken War Machine's place. We don't know how long this has been going on, or how, because it's never shown on screen.

9) Bruce Banner's transformation into Professor Hulk

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

Between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Bruce Banner manages to merge his human mind with his Hulk body to become Professor Hulk. A character not necessarily very popular with fans. This fusion between his two identities has never been shown on screen.

8) Hulk as champion of Sakaar

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

We're staying with Hulk for a bit. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor tracks down Hulk, despite himself, on Sakaar. On this planet ruled by the Grandmaster, Hulk became a gladiator and a champion. However, none of his fights have been shown on screen. Too bad, because if we're to believe the statues erected by the Grandmaster, The Thing Man and Ares were also champions of Sakaar. And it would be great to know if they crossed paths with the Jade Giant. Only the series What If…? gives us a little more detail about the planet Sakaar.

7) The meeting between Odin and Strange

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

Still in Thor: Ragnarok, Doctor Strange explains to Thor that he met Odin some time ago and even helped him hide from Hela. A meeting, again, that was created off-screen.

6) Thanos killing the Asgardians

At the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Thanos finds the trail of the Asgardians. The latter, having just escaped from the brink of defeat against Hela, were forced to abandon Asgard, destroyed by Surtur. Just when they thought they were safe, Thanos finds their trail and decides to attack them. This one-sided confrontation for Thanos is never shown, and Avengers: Infinity War begins with the vast majority of Asgardians on the ground…

5) Skaar

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

This is the big joke of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The series ends haphazardly with Hulk introducing his son: Skaar. A cult character from the comics, he is introduced out of the blue in the MCU. We don't know where he comes from, why he's there, when Hulk had a child, with whom, etc. We don't know what Skaar was doing all this time, nor his age, nor his background. We don't know anything! And he's ugly too...

4) Captain America frees his allies from the Raft

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

At the end of Captain America: Civil War, some of Cap's allies like Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and Sam Wilson are apprehended and sent to The Raft, a maximum security prison for supers. Finally, Steve Rogers decides to free his friends. Some of the Avengers then become outlaws. Again, this escape scene was never shown on screen. Too bad because it could be a really cool action sequence!

3) The Blip

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

What happened between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame? How did the world change? What did the Avengers do during this period? While the Blip period is often mentioned, it is never actually depicted on screen. Too bad, because the Russo brothers had great dramatic potential with this never-explored period of the MCU.

2) Thanos destroys Xandar to recover the Power Stone

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

This is one of the big moments in the MCU that fans would love to see. At the beginning of Infinity War, Thanos is already in possession of the Power Stone. An Infinity Stone that he went to recover on Xandar, the home planet of Nova (which we're still waiting for in the MCU). Apparently, Thanos completely destroyed Xandar and annihilated the Nova Corps. In the comics, it's Annihilus who plays this role. Unfortunately for Marvel fans, the destruction of Xandar was never depicted on screen. Perhaps Nova's introduction will be marked by this flashback, a technique often used by Marvel Studios.

1) Captain America brings the Infinity Stones back in time

Marvel: These 15 Major MCU Events Happened Off-Camera

It's rumored that Marvel Studios could develop a series around this event. At the end of Endgame, Cap is sent back in time to restore the Infinity Stones to their proper place in the time continuum. A cult journey, which must be full of references and emblematic passages, which, however, Marvel refuses to show us. For the moment, Steve Rogers' heroic quest is nothing more than a fantasy.
