Nintendo Switch 2: Very reassuring news for players

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 continues to be the talk of the town. After revealing its first enhanced games, dubbed "Switch 2 Edition," one detail had sowed doubt among some players. Should we expect incomplete cartridges? With a base game and a simple update to download? Fortunately, Nintendo has just clarified the situation. And the answer is rather reassuring.

Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games have good news

No bad surprises to be expected. The physical versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games will directly contain the full game and its improvements. Everything will be present on the cartridge. Nintendo has specified that these cartridges will be designed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. No need to download to enjoy the new graphic options or additional content. However, a useful little clarification: some publishers will be able, at their discretion, to offer physical versions with a simple download code inside. But this will remain an exception and not the rule.

These Nintendo Switch 2 Editions are not limited to a simple port. They will benefit from several technical improvements reserved for the new console. For example, we're talking about better resolution, a more stable frame rate, HDR, and even new exclusive features depending on the game. And the good news is that players who already own the classic versions of these games on Switch will be able to purchase an upgrade to move to... the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition version, without having to repurchase the full game.

Which games are affected for now?

À To date, six titles have been confirmed for the Switch 2 Edition:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree

Some of these upgrades will even be included in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription. This is particularly the case for the two Zelda games, which will benefit from new features such as improved resolution, a smoother frame rate, and a Zelda Notes function allowing you to consult useful information on mobile. Metroid Prime 4 will offer two graphics modes to choose from: a 4K 60 FPS mode or a 120 FPS mode in HD. As for Super Mario Party and Kirby, they will benefit from new content and surprises.
