The Resident Evil saga has never really stopped being a hit since the release of its first installment in 1996. We can no longer count the number of games to its credit, especially if we start counting the numbered main games and the spin-offs. The latest title, Resident Evil 4 Remake, is celebrating a major milestone today and proudly racking up millions. Except that the celebration was quickly overshadowed by something else, a potential teaser for the next Resident Evil 9 game. Could Capcom be playing with our nerves? Is it possible...
Resident Evil 4 Remake is celebrating... by teasing the next game?
Resident Evil 4 Remake is celebrating 10 million players, which is colossal. We knew it, the game was a hit at launch and for good reason, it's excellent. Like Resident Evil 2 Remake in its time, Capcom has managed to enhance its own masterpiece by giving it more power and making some welcome changes.
To celebrate the news, the developer has released a hilarious video of the game (listen with the sound on, of course), but what seemed like a funny video could actually be preparing us for another announcement, that of Resident Evil 9.
Fans are going wild, is Resident Evil 9 an imminent announcement?
It's no longer a secret, Capcom has revealed that it is in the midst of development on its next installment, which is being helmed by the man behind Resident Evil 7: K'shi Nakanishi. However, Resident Evil 9 has never been officially shown yet, we don't even know what it's about. Rumors have been emerging for some time here and there and suggest in particular that it would be Leon S. Kennedy the main protagonist, the same hero as Resident Evil 4 Remake. In the celebratory video, fans immediately spot the symbol IX, or 9 in Roman numerals, the typography used for Resident Evil 7 and RE Village.
The symbol IX is most visible at the very end of the video, drawn by a sign that you just have to turn 90°. One particularly intriguing thing: this type of sign doesn't exist at all in Resident Evil 4 Remake, which leads us to believe that it's not there by chance. Is it an attempt to drive fans crazy or a real teaser from Capcom? The mystery remains. Either way, Resident Evil 9 will certainly show up this year now that Monster Hunter Wilds is out and doing so well. We'll definitely hear the verdict in the coming months. Wait and see as they say.
