Rick and Morty are about to return to action in the eighth season of the eponymous series. And to help fans wait a little longer after a hiatus of more than a year, the creators have just unveiled a first clip centered on the theme of Easter.
The short sequence is centered around good old Jerry. True to his reputation as a fragile character in need of attention, he is shown singing while making colorful decorations. His goal: to convince the other members of his family to participate in an egg hunt. A prospect that, clearly, neither the young protagonist of the series, too busy streaming his game of Fortnite on Twitch, nor his sister Summer, in the middle of preparing for Spring Break, are thrilled by. His wife, Beth, doesn't seem receptive to his nostalgia either.
This one-minute clip at least has the merit of confirming that poor Jerry remains as pathetic as ever. We can therefore expect him to find himself at again in incredible situations that are completely beyond him, forcing Rick and Morty to intervene.
However, it remains less impactful than the first "April Fools" teaser, peppered with of mise en abyme, appeared on the Adult Swim YouTube channel a little over a week ago.
An eighth season awaited at the turning point
Will this be enough to rekindle the flame among long-time fans? Nothing is less certain.
As a reminder, the seventh season, broadcast at the end of 2023, received a fairly mixed reception from the public. Overall, viewers have often pointed out a certain stagnation in the evolution of the characters. In addition, they do not seem to have found the originality exceptional and irreverent exuberance that made the first seasons so charming.
The producers will therefore be expected to deliver with this eighth opus. Will Rick & Morty manage to reinvent themselves and offer a fresh and entertaining new adventure that will please everyone? Tune in from May 25th, the release date of the first episode on Adult Swim, to find out.
