Many fans worship him, but for George Lucas, it's important to reestablish this truth forgotten about this exceptional villain.
Darth Vader, a cult devoted to many Star Wars fans
What if fans of Star Wars and more particularly those of the cult character Darth Vader had absolutely not understood who he really was? In any case, this is what his creator George Lucas has just mentioned. It must be said that the public's admiration for the Sith Lord continues to diminish! In The Making of The Revenge of the Sith, George Lucas evokes the sequence in Return of the Jedi in which Vader kills Emperor Palpatine to save his son Luke Skywalker. If for fans this is of a moment of redemption for the Sith, the director disagrees:
Anakin cannot be redeemed for all the pain and suffering he caused.
Lucas adds that the character "doesn't right the wrongs, but he ends the horror." To say that Vader redeemed himself in Return of the Jedi is false because even if Anakin fulfills the prophecy that was to restore balance to the Force, in the face of the suffering he may have caused throughout the Galaxy, it is not enough to forgive him for these actions.
No, Darth Vader is not a hero and he knows it
Note that there is a difference between making Darth Vader an iconic character and considering him a hero. Showing us the story of Anakin falling to the Dark Side in the prequels was a way of telling us that even for a hero, like Anakin was during the Clone Wars, he can fall so low and become so brutal and terrifying. Darth Vader was never a hero and he knows it when he says to Luke: "It's too late for me, my son."
We must not forget that Vader is and will remain a villain. Just like Palpatine, Star Wars never intended to glorify him and portray him in a heroic light. As soon as he swore an oath to Palpatine and massacred the Jedi Temple during Order 66, there was no redemption for Darth Vader.
