Netflix launches the pharaonic project of the Chronicles of Narnia
Indeed, in the hope of standing out from competing streaming platforms, Netflix has decided to offer a new adaptation of the fantasy novels The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. The British writer's work had already been adapted into a series of three films released between 2005 and 2010. In this adaptation, The White Witch of Olden Times was played by Tilda Swinton. The character is the antagonist of the adventure. She has only one idea: to eliminate the four children mentioned in a prophecy that they will arrive in Narnia to defeat her. Jadis will then introduce an eternal winter cold and ban the celebration of Christmas.
After entrusting the direction of the films to Andrew Adamson for the first two installments, then to Michael Apted for the last, Netflix has decided to entrust this extraordinary project to Greta Gerwig, director of the film Barbie with Margot Robbie. The filmmaker has been tasked with writing the screenplay for this film, which will be an adaptation of the sixth installment in the saga, The Magician's Nephew. A book in which the White Witch plays an important role. Charli XCX will not be the one to succeed Tilda SwintonBritish pop-electro singer Charli XCX. However, plans have changed as it is no longer the 32-year-old pop star who will play Jadis but a Franco-British actress in the person of Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Barbie, ...).
She will therefore succeed Tilda Swinton and should give the reply to Meryl Streep who is currently in discussions with Netflix to join the project. The latter could play the role of the lion Aslan who protects the children lost in the world of Narnia.
This new adaptation of the Chronicles of Narnia will arrive in IMAX theaters for Thanksgiving 2026 before being offered in the Netflix catalog for Christmas.
