A few weeks after unveiling its Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide, Big N has finally found the solution to export its console to the American continent and took the opportunity to release an immensely nostalgic ad. We tell you everything!
Nintendo: time for nostalgia!
On Wednesday, April 2, Nintendo finally unveiled its showcase dedicated to its new hybrid console: the Nintendo Switch 2. Bigger and more powerful than the original Switch, the Japanese manufacturer's new creation comes with a Game Chat button. However, despite all its good promises, the Nintendo Switch 2 has been at the heart of many controversies; in addition to the doubts of some players concerning its real capabilities, the price of the console and some of its exclusive games have been deemed too high. As a reminder, the base price of the console is 469 euros (409 euros for the bundle including the dedigital version of Mario Kart World), while the console's launch game is 89.99 euros.
Moreover, Donald Trump's announcement of customs duty increases has caused confusion in the global market, to the point that Nintendo has temporarily canceled its pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2, while it finds a solution to prevent prices from increasing too much. The decision of the American administration to grant a 90-day period before imposing the new customs regulations on the one hand, and the Kyoto company's strategy of deferring the increases mainly to accessories, have allowed Nintendo to deploy pre-orders on the American continent. Things are getting serious for the Japanese company, which has begun to unveil advertisements tailored for the American public.
One of them is causing a lot of talk: featuring American actor Paul Rudd - known in particular for his role as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mike Hannigan in the cult sitcom Friends and for his comedies for Judd Apatow - playing Mario Kart World, it mainly focuses on Game Chat. If the advertisement is generating so much reaction, it's because it's aa strong homage to an advertisement for the legendary Super Nintendo (SNES) which already featured Paul Rudd. More than thirty years later, the actor is wearing the same outfit and the same hairstyle.
A nice marketing move for Nintendo, which intends to definitively put aside the various controversies that are plaguing the promotion of the Nintendo Switch 2. By stirring the nostalgic fiber of fans, the advertisement recalls that the Japanese company has a very long experience and unconsciously calls for the trust of fans. It should not be forgotten that Nintendo is taking on a huge challenge with its new console: succeeding in surpassing the sales of the first Nintendo Switch, which occupies third place in the ranking of the best-selling consoles in the world. It should also be noted that several features of the Switch 2, starting with Game Chat, will require a subscription to Nintendo Online, which offers the opportunity to play GameCube, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, NES and... Super Nintendo games! Everything overlaps!
