A new edition of The Last Of Us, coming soon to PS5 and in physical version? It may seem crazy, but it's the hot rumor of the moment, coming to us directly from billbil-kun of the media Dealabs, who has very often proven his reliability in the past, notably being the very first to share the visuals of the PS5 Pro last August.
According to the latter, a new edition of The Last Of Us would be expected in the coming months, with pre-orders expected to be launched within two months.
The Last Of Us back, again?
The news surrounding The Last Of Us is buzzing right now. It must be said that season 2 of the HBO series is just around the corner, with the first episode expected on April 14 on HBO Max in France. Alongside the series, PlayStation is betting everything on its license and in particular its second game with a PC port of The Last Of Us Part II Remastered arriving this week and the release of a limited edition DualSense PS5 controller, scheduled for next week.
While the future of the series is rather unclear, with a rather uncertain The Last Of Us Part III, it seems that Sony is already thinking about a new reissue of the current games. According to billbil-kun of the Dealabs media, a new version of The Last Of Us is expected in the coming months with pre-orders that could be launched within two months maximum.
For the moment, billbil-kun does not know if this new edition concerns The Last Of Us Part I or The Last Of Us Part II, however, the price of this new edition should be 119.99 euros for Europe and 109.99 dollars for North America.
Given the price, it seems difficult to imagine that this new edition will not concern only one of the two games. There's a good chance it's a bundle that includes both games. And why not imagine a complete bundle with the integration of season 1 and season 2?
To date, The Last Of Us has had three reissues since its release:
- The Last Of Us – June 2013, PS3 (original version)
- The Last Of Us Remastered – July 2014, PS4 (remastered version)
- The Last Of Us Part I – September 2022, PS5 (remake)
- The Last Of Us Part I – March 2023, PC (PC port)
For its part, The Last Of Us Part II experienced the same thing with:
- The Last Of Us Part II – June 2020, PS5 (original version)
- The Last Of Us Part II Remastered – January 2024, PS5 (remastered version)
- The Last Of Us Part II Remastered – April 2025, PC (PC port)
So, of course, this is quite common these days in the video game industry, and ultimately, The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us Part II were not entitled to more ports than any other successful game (GTA 5, Minecraft, Skyrim...). But, today, it seems quite difficult to imagine a new port.
Unless, this heralds the arrival on a new platform, with a bundle bringing together the two games? Why not on Nintendo Switch 2, whose presentation and first games are expected tomorrow? In November 2024, PlayStation released its first PlayStation Studio game on the Switch with LEGO Horizon Adventures. A few days ago, Nintendo announced, during its latest Nintendo Direct, the arrival of the remasters of Patapon, an old cult PlayStation license.
Are Sony and Nintendo about to start porting several exclusive games? To be continued, for the moment, it is not really possible to position ourselves and know, concretely, what this umpteenth re-edition of the game will offer, nor when it will be released.
