The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 – scheduled for June 5th – is fast approaching, but the new console's flagship game still has plenty of surprises in store. The ambitious Mario Kart World wowed us during the previous Direct hosted by the Kyoto-based company, but this video game blockbuster deserves its own presentation.
Gamers who didn't have the chance to get their hands on the console at the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience (held at the Grand Palais in Paris from April 4th to 6th) will finally be able to discover the new Mario Kart in more detail... But not too much either. Nintendo has just announced the length of its Direct, and it seems that the manufacturer prefers to stick to the basics so as not to reveal too many secrets before the release.
A short presentation to follow in a live blog on Journal du Geek
The Mario Kart World Direct will be broadcast this Thursday, April 17th starting at 3 p.m. (French time) on the Nintendo France YouTube channel. Against all expectations, it will only last 15 minutes. Even if the manufacturer promises that the live "will present in detail this upcoming game exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2", this quarter of an hour could pass very quickly if the content presented is similar to that of the Direct of April 2nd. To make sure you don't miss anything, stay tuned to this article, which we'll update throughout the presentation. Remember to refresh the page!

The environments will be dotted with new enemies like the Hammer Brothers, or cars that shoot Bullet Bills.
The next generation Grand Prix
You will have to drive from one circuit to another during the Grand Prix. Once the player has won them all, the famous Rainbow Road will appear on the map.

In this new mode, you will have to stay at the top of the leaderboard to reach the end of the race. Players who are lagging behind will be eliminated as the laps go by.
The Joy-Con 2 steering wheel
The tradition started by Mario Kart Wii continues: a steering wheel accessory for the Switch 2's Joy-Con 2 will be released.
Takeaway food to unlock skins
While driving, characters can pick up food from certain stands. The right food-character combo will unlock additional outfits, which can be selected from the main menu later.
New Racing Techniques
The charged jump will allow you to perform tricks and jump over obstacles, slide on cables or even avoid attacks by holding the drift button in a straight line. It will also be possible to jump on certain walls.
Other additional modes
The classic time trial will be back, as will the VS race mode, with the possibility of splitting the 24 players into several teams. But the biggest news is undoubtedly the return of the Nintendo DS balloon battles. Coin battles will also be part of the game.
The specifics of Stroll mode
By exploring the open world, players will be able to take part in hidden missions scattered throughout, ideal for completionists.
A photo mode will also be available to take even more surprising shots.
The different multiplayer modes
It will be possible to enjoy Mario Kart World with 4 players in local split screen or with 8 players in local wireless mode (provided that everyone brings their own game and console. Online, up to 24 players can compete, and two players can play on the same console in online lobbies.
As they explore the world, players can spot their connected friends directly from the map and join them for races or missions.
Camera Features
Players equipped Nintendo Switch 2 users will be able to share their face live with their friends during private games.
This feature will also be available in local split-screen mode, since the camera is capable of detecting up to four faces. This way, the races will be more lively than ever, and it will be more fun to find out who overtook you with a red shell.
