The rumors surrounding the PS6 continue to swirl. And this time, one important detail is causing a stir: Sony is reportedly working on a portable version of its future console. What exactly is it? And above all, what do we know about it so far?
A portable console designed for battery life
In fact, it would be a sort of PS6 to take anywhere. But be careful. According to initial reports, we shouldn't expect power equivalent to that of the current PS5. Far from it. The information comes from a certain KeplerL2, a regular on specialized forums and often well-informed. Especially since he himself mentioned this potential console last December. According to him, this portable PS6 would use a chip of only 15 watts.
To give you an idea, this is the same consumption as Valve's Steam Deck. Conversely, a classic PS5 runs around 200 watts. We are therefore in two completely different worlds. No surprise then: this future portable console would primarily aim for autonomy. It would be designed to play for a long time, without necessarily displaying ultra-detailed graphics.
A very different positioning from the Switch or the Steam Deck
Today, the portable console market is already quite busy. Between the Nintendo Switch, portable PCs like the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally, players are spoiled for choice. But Sony could take another approach. Rather than a very powerful but energy-hungry machine, the portable PS6 would focus on a lightweight and practical format. A true portable gaming machine, yes, but one that would remain above all an extension of the PlayStation universe.
One important question remains: will this console be able to run PS6 games natively? Or will it be primarily designed for streaming or Remote Play, like the PlayStation Portal? For now, it's difficult to answer. But Sony clearly seems to want to strengthen its ecosystem. Being able to start a game on your living room PS6 and continue it outside, on your portable PS6, could appeal to many players.
Be careful, though. Nothing is official. Sony has absolutely not confirmed The existence of a portable PS6. For now, this is just an unverified leak, so we'll have to wait a little longer to learn more. But if this information is confirmed, it would mark an unexpected return for Sony to the portable console market. With a very different positioning from the PSP or PS Vita.
