Nintendo has just taken advantage of a streamed event to unveil the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. On the agenda: a more powerful console with a larger, brighter screen, and a new button for chatting with other players. All this comes at a significantly higher price.
It's now official: Nintendo has just unveiled its Switch 2 portable console. A formula that takes the fundamentals of the previous generation, while introducing Improvements across the board. The device's slimness remains identical to the previous generation. But the device offers a significantly larger 7.9" screen with better resolution and a refresh rate of 120 frames per second.
The console itself also benefits from a new, more robust integrated stand that can be locked more freely at different angles. The device also offers a new microphone, useful for the chat features we'll discuss below. It also features a second USB port on the top. This makes the user experience more ergonomic, especially when the console itself serves as a screen for your video games.

For the rest, the basic storage capacity increases to 256 GB, with the option to install microSD cards. The dock has also been redesigned, allowing your TV to enjoy better 4K definition up to 120 frames per second. There is also a built-in fan to keep the device cool enough to avoid overheating issues.
One of the most interesting new features concerns the Joy-Con. These are incompatible with the previous generation, and for good reason. They are moving from a mechanical attachment system with rails to a new method based on powerful magnets. The triggers are wider, as are the joysticks.
They both allow them to be used like optical mice by placing them on their edges. And above all, they have a new C button that gives access to chat features, which the company calls GameChat. This requires a Switch Online subscription with an introductory offer available until 03/31/2026.
It allows you to chat with other players during online games, using the console's built-in microphone. Microphone designed to be used even remotely, with ambient noise cancellation algorithms. In addition, there is also a new accessory, the Nintendo Switch Camera 2. This adds video to the chat features.
It connects via USB C via one of the console's two ports. Which can therefore be recharged while using the accessory. The console will be compatible with a catalog of games specific to the console, to enjoy better graphics and all the new features of the device. Nintendo also announces the arrival of updates for a selection of Nintendo Switch games already released.
The console will be available from June 5, 2025. In France, pre-orders begin on April 8. Two bundles will be offered at launch, bringing the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 to €469.99 for the console alone, or €509.99 with the Mario Kart game included directly in the box.
