The Xbox portable console becomes more and more real

It's been almost a year since we've been hearing about an Xbox portable console. And for good reason, the company has continued to lead us down this path through mysterious, but significant, statements. Today, it seems that the device is indeed on its way, and this has been confirmed by the Asus brand and Xbox. Known in the world of gaming peripherals, the company is already established in the portable console market, or at least PC consoles, thanks to its ROG Ally.

In a video shared on its networks, Asus teases the arrival of a new product, whose collaboration with Xbox is barely hidden. We can see a ROG Ally and a controller being thrown together in a kind of machine that can merge the two. We don't see the final product, but the symbolism is rather clear. Its implications are even clearer since the Xbox account commented on Asus's post with the meme of the monkey glancing sideways. At any moment, the Asus ROG Ally Xbox Edition could see the light of day.

One step closer to the portable console

The portable console is a project that has been close to the heart of Xbox for quite some time now. A year ago, Phil Spencer declared that there was no machine on the market that would allow him to have the feeling of holding an Xbox console in his hands, despite all the products available at the time. The Steam Deck, the ROG ALLY, or even the Lenovo Legion Go failed to convince the businessman. And for good reason, these devices look more like miniature PCs than consoles. strictly speaking.

Recently, rumors relayed by Windows Central claimed that Xbox had approached Asus to design the portable console of its dreams. This really isn't that surprising. For its big projects, Xbox has always trusted and worked with external companies, through official collaborations, unlike PlayStation, which has always wanted to do everything in-house, even if it meant being a step behind.

It remains to be seen what the result of this machine will be. For the moment, we have neither its design, nor its release window, nor even real confirmation of its existence with a formal announcement. However, we can imagine the platform's interface. Phil Spencer, for example, advocates for simplified multi-platform connectivity and progression.
