Titanium to lighten Apple's future Vision Air headset?

Titanium to lighten Apple's future Vision Air headset?

Phew! It seems that Apple has no intention of sweeping the Vision Pro under the rug, despite the lack of enthusiasm from users and developers for this new platform. visionOS, the operating system that realizes Apple's vision of "spatial computing," continues to evolve, albeit discreetly, but with each update The update brings improvements in terms of ergonomics, as well as new capabilities (such as mirroring the Mac screen onto a huge curved virtual monitor).

Apple in search of lightness

visionOS 3.0, which will be presented in early June during WWDC, should also drive the point home with additional features. The OS is not the only problem with the platform: Apple must also resolve hardware issues, including weight. The Vision Pro weighs over 650 grams (and it doesn't include a battery), which ends up putting a strain on your neck! It's no coincidence that Apple Stores sell a Belkin strap that makes wearing the headset more comfortable.

Apple is reportedly taking this weight issue very seriously. According to the often well-informed leaker Kosutami, the next version of the headset would be thinner and incorporate titanium elements "to reduce weight." The material is already used in the Apple Watch Ultra and the iPhone. The headset chassis would remain aluminum on the outside, but the titanium would be used to lighten certain components like the connectors and the battery.

This future headset would come in graphite black, accompanied by a new connector that is thicker than a Lightning connector (this difficult-to-disconnect cable connects to the battery). Finally, Apple could change the name of the device: this Vision Pro 2 would be renamed Vision Air!

Given the material used and the work required to refine the device, we should probably not expect this Vision Air to be offered much cheaper than the current model (which starts at 4000 euros).

These indiscretions, which accompany those of Mark Gurman last Sunday, seem to indicate very clearly that the apple company continues to work on its Vision range. A relief for the first buyers... The Bloomberg snooper dangled two new helmets in front of him: one that was "lighter and cheaper," and a second that would be even lighter.
