WhatsApp integrates a document scanner and is full of new features

WhatsApp users—about 2 billion of them—have discovered many new features in recent days when they open their favorite messaging app. Video calls, for example, have recently been improved with a pinch-to-zoom gesture on iPhone; it simply allows you to see the video more closely, both your own and that of the person you're talking to.

Improving video calls

It is now possible to add a person to You can also end an ongoing one-on-one call by tapping the call icon at the top and then selecting the "Add to Call" option. WhatsApp has also strengthened its infrastructure to reduce call drops and choppy video playback. Its bandwidth detection tool has also been improved to convert video to HD quality faster.

On iPhone, one of the big new features of the app is the integration of a document scanning function. It allows you to send documents saved with your smartphone's camera - nothing too fancy or original at the moment (you can do the same with any photo), but the feature also allows you to crop the document.

On iOS 18, WhatsApp may become the default app for calls and messages. For all platforms, a new online indicator is appearing in group discussions to see in real time how many participants are present and available to chat.

A new "Notifications for" setting allows you to receive notifications only for mentions (@), replies, and messages from saved contacts (you must select the "Important" option). The "News" tab hosts instant sharing functions for short videos (less than 60 seconds) for channel admins.

For these same admins, a QR code creation tool makes it easy to share the channel address. Finally, a voice message transcription function is present to obtain a written summary of voice news published in the channels, in case we don't have enough time to listen to them.
