Will you be able to watch movies and series on the Nintendo Switch 2?

In the console world, it's generally accepted that there are currently three major companies competing with each other: Sony with its PlayStation, Microsoft with its Xbox, and Nintendo. The latter has just unveiled the flagship of its next generation. The Nintendo Switch 2 promises a more ergonomic experience, increased performance, and a host of new accessories and features.

Although historically lagging behind its competitors in terms of power, the Switch 2 is catching up and will be capable of running much more demanding AAA games than before. But there's still one aspect in which the Switch has never matched its counterparts. There are currently very few video streaming services available on Nintendo's console.

Only YouTube and Crunchyroll are accessible. In the United States, subscribers can also access Hulu, a service included in Disney+ in France; unfortunately, the application is not available on Nintendo Switch. It is extremely limited in terms of content, but especially in terms of production quality.

The question of SVOD services is legitimate, since it is a well-established feature on Xbox and PlayStation, which allow native access to Netflix, Disney+, myCanal, and Prime Video. Almost ten platforms are accessible on these consoles.

Still no news for SVOD services

To date, Nintendo has not announced further compatibility with its Switch 2. The eShop has not yet been updated and only games appear as being available on the console. From a graphical point of view, the machine would be perfect for this use, unlike the previous model. In living room mode, the dock can go up to 4K (with compatible TVs), finally aligning with current viewing standards. Performance is still too low in portable mode, but could be suitable for occasional or casual use.

All that remains is to wait for Nintendo to add streaming services to its list of applications on the Nintendo eShop. We should have more official information by the time the console is released on June 5th.
