Zelda: a bad surprise on Nintendo Switch 2 and it's going to be a problem

The presentation of Nintendo's new console has sparked much debate, with both good and bad news. The price of the machine and the games have been at the heart of discussions ever since. However, this isn't the only topic fueling conversations. For example, certain features are raising questions. This is the case for two Switch editions of the Zelda saga, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

A bad surprise for Zelda games on Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 will please many thanks to its backward compatibility. That said, several titles released on the previous console will be entitled to an optimized reissue for the new one. This is the case, for example, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, as well as for its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom.

In this kind of situation, a question arises. Will we be able to continue our adventure started on Switch 1 on the future console and, if so, how? Recently, for example, we had confirmation that we will be able to transfer our Animal Crossing New Horizons island from the old to the new one via, among other things, the cloud. But, it wouldn't be that simple for the two Zelda games.

In fact, if we look at the Nintendo e-shop page for Zelda ToTK, we can read the following statement: "This software is not compatible with the Nintendo Switch Online paid subscription service's save data cloud." However, this statement does not appear on the Breath of the Wild page, so doubts remain about it. It would indeed be surprising if an opus benefits from this feature and not its sequel. Even more surprising, this clarification regarding Tears of the Kingdom is not specified for all regions.

What does this statement mean? To do so, it seems that French players cannot save their progress in the cloud, at least for Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. However, Nintendo Switch Online features are still supported. Therefore, you should be able to transfer your game from a Switch 1 to the Switch 2. However, after that, you will only be able to save your game on the console and not in the famous magical cloud. It is therefore impossible to continue your game on another machine or to preserve storage space thanks to this paid service.

For the moment, Nintendo has not commented on this state of affairs on Switch 2. This is therefore a situation that leaves one speechless, especially given the local differences. However, it is not said that The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom does not welcome this feature at term, as would be the case for Breath of the Wild.
