Usually sent in the spring, the 2025 energy check will finally be allocated starting in November by the Agency for Services and Payments (ASP). This is a direct consequence of the late adoption of the Finance Act this year, which risks disrupting the budgets of the 5.5 million French households that are due to benefit from it.
To prevent this delay from penalizing the most vulnerable households, the government has asked energy suppliers to be flexible: no power cuts in the event of non-payment for potential beneficiaries, and an obligation to reduce energy consumption rather than completely interrupting the household's network. These measures, confirmed by Marc Ferracci, the Minister of Industry, will apply until the check is received, expected in November. To take into account the postponement, the validity period of the energy check will also be extended: checks sent from November 2025 will be valid until March 31, 2027, instead of the usual March 31, 2026. This will give beneficiaries more time to use their aid.
Towards a dematerialization of the system
A major new feature for 2025: the energy check will be able to be dematerialized from this summer. Beneficiaries will therefore be able to use it directly online, from their personal space, to pay their bills in one or more installments to partner suppliers. This development will aim to simplify use and offer more flexibility to users.
What is it for?
The energy check is financial assistance intended for the most modest households, to help them pay energy bills (electricity, gas, fuel oil, wood, etc.) related to their housing. It can also be used, depending on the year, to finance certain energy renovation works carried out by certified professionals. The amount of the check varies according to income and household composition, ranging from €48 to €277 per year.
How do you know if you are eligible?
The allocation of energy checks is automatic for the majority of households, based on tax data and information from energy suppliers. However, if you think you're entitled to this aid, even though you're not receiving it, you can also register online at chequeenergie.gouv.fr or by mail. You can also check here if you're eligible for the scheme. Last year, more than a million households didn't receive their aid, even though they were entitled to it.
