In episode 10 of season 2 of Andor, a visual detail shocked viewers. A Gungan skull is briefly seen in a scene between Luthen Rael and Kleya. Fans immediately began to put forward dark theories about Star Wars. Why this skull? Is it a simple wink? Or a hint of an upcoming event?
A seemingly innocuous scene
The action takes place in a secret lair where Luthen receives a visit from a senior member of the Empire. The camera quickly pans across a shelf and reveals an elongated, gilded skull with familiar features. Star Wars fans immediately recognized it as a Gungan skull, the amphibian species native to Naboo. There's no dialogue about it, but this fleeting shot was enough to sow seeds of doubt and spark numerous theories. One of the most chilling speculations is that the skull belongs to Jar Jar Binks. If that's the case, the iconic and often-mocked prequel character may have met a grim fate. It's now canon. The bombing of Naboo mentioned in Episode 10 corresponds to the assassination of Senator Jar Jar Binks and his Imperial escort. Years later, his skull was supposedly stolen from a Gungan shrine.

A tragic reinterpretation of the character?
Jar Jar Binks, in his early days, was nothing more than a comic relief. In this role, many criticized him, while others defended him. But over the years, his trajectory has changed. In some post-Revenge of the Sith novels and stories, Jar Jar lives as an outcast, rejected by his own people. The citizens of Naboo hold him responsible for Palpatine's rise to power.
In the Aftermath trilogy of novels, he appears as a street clown, ignored and despised. The appearance of this skull, if it confirms his death, would thus echo this tragic fate.
A work of art or a desecration?
There is another detail that intrigues fans: gold inlays are visible on the skull. Some see this as a link to Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken objects with gold. Symbolically, this could mean that the figure, although broken, still has value.
But other interpretations are darker. Indeed, the skull could be an imperial trophy, a relic on display, like a warning. Or worse, a desecrated relic recovered on Naboo by forces hostile to the Gungans.
Dark humor and lots of sarcasm
On social media, fans' reactions range between shock and sarcasm:
Jar Jar has gone from meesa back to meesa museum.
Mick Kelly
They're not animals, fgs...

Maybe it's not Jar Jar. But in that case, who else?

Others have pointed out that the series doesn't confirm anything. The skull's identity remains a mystery. It could be another Gungan, a warrior, a nobleman, a priest... Or just a collectible with no particular meaning.
