Bouygues Telecom takes a nasty step towards its mobile subscribers: they will have to pay termination fees

Until now, changing operators was almost as easy as clicking a button. And with number portability, it's practically painless. Bouygues Telecom has decided to change the rules of the game, however, by imposing unprecedented termination fees: from now on, both current and new customers are subject to a fee of 5 euros before leaving the operator, as well as the specifies the official price brochure.

Unpleasant surprise for subscribers

This surcharge applies to the three B&You 5G plans without commitment: 1GB (€4.99), 40GB (€8.99) and 200GB (€9.99). As the website iGen points out, these termination fees are common in fixed-line internet (the same Bouygues Telecom recently increased them to €69). But in this sector, it is common for the new ISP to reimburse these fees. Obviously, there is nothing like that in telecoms, at least... for the moment.

UniversFreebox reports that many current Bouygues Telecom subscribers have received an email informing them of the new feature. These subscribers, who are already Holders of a mobile plan can cancel their contract free of charge within four months of receiving the message.

It would hardly be surprising if paid cancellations spread like wildfire among other operators who are looking for new sources of revenue by any means. We see this with cancellation fees from ISPs or paid SIM cards at 10 euros.
