Just because it's called Call of Duty doesn't mean success is guaranteed. While Activision's golden goose has no trouble generating millions of dollars in bundles each year, it still seems that gamers are attached to certain platforms in particular. In this case: consoles and PC. On mobile, things are clearly a little more complicated. So much so that the publisher finally announced the end of Call of Duty: Warzone on iOS and Android, just one year after its launch.
Call of Duty Warzone on mobile ends
"While we are proud to have successfully brought COD Warzone to mobile in an authentic way, the game unfortunately did not meet our expectations with mobile players as it did on PC and consoles" can indeed be read in a press release published on X a few days ago. "As a result, we will no longer be providing new seasonal content or gameplay updates on the mobile version," the Call of Duty publisher added, specifying that it is no longer possible to make in-game purchases or take advantage of social features.
Nor is downloading the game, for that matter, as Call of Duty Warzone Mobile was simply removed from Google Play and the App Store this Sunday, May 18. However, for those who downloaded Warzone before today, please note that your access to the title is maintained, and that you will be able to continue your progress with all existing content. Likewise, if you still have COD Points, you can still exchange them for items available in the store.
The franchise still present on mobile despite everything
"We know this news can be disappointing, and we truly appreciate the support, passion, feedback, and dedication of our community" concludes the press release, before reminding that Call of Duty Mobile, however, remains available. Moreover, Activision announces that special rewards are currently awaiting players ready to embark on the adventure for the occasion. A nice way to sweeten the pill, then, even if there's no doubt about it: the public is waiting especially after the announcement of the next installment.
