The CANAL group in France will soon be rolling out a new version of its Canal+ application on the Android system. Thanks to a beta test, we had the opportunity to try out the new features of the streaming app on mobile.

During the month of April 2025, the Canal+ team invited its subscribers to preview test a new version of its CANAL application on Android, using a form made available by the Canal+ Support website. Several weeks after the announcement of the launch of the Android beta test, we had the opportunity to discover the new interface and the new player of the streaming application on a smartphone equipped with Google's mobile operating system.

As can be seen in the visual below, the home page of the CANAL+ application on Android has undergone changes to the icons located at the bottom of the screen. From now on, in addition to the pictograms, the terms “Home”, “Search”, “Live”, “Channels & Apps” and “More” are visible.

In the “Live” section related to programs broadcast live, the Canal team has added various improvements such as faster zap between channels or smoother live control.

Regarding the user experience, features have been implemented, namely:

  • ZOOM: zoom the screen by pinching with two fingers
  • Flow control (-10/+10): double tap on the sides of the screen to advance or rewind the program by 10 seconds
  • Flow control: use a long press to activate timeline and seek control
  • Pull to PiP: put the flow in “picture in picture” mode when sliding

In addition to these features, we also noticed the appearance of a summary (or synopsis) associated with the program being viewed and an icon to orient the mobile screen.

For your information, this version of the Canal+ app on Android requires a smartphone and/or tablet running Android 9 (or higher). Other developments to the app will surely be integrated during the beta test and especially before the official deployment of the new version of the app. We will be sure to update the article then.
