Chief of War is the new blockbuster series not to be missed

Apple TV+ has its series of the summer, or even the year. On August 1st, the streaming platform will welcome Chief of War, a historical program produced by Jason Momoa that already promises to make a big splash. The Apple service's catalog has accustomed us to grandiose spectacles and is doing it again with an immersive dive into the little-known past of the Hawaiian Islands. True to form, Momoa is once again preparing to take on a role as intense as it is badass, but with an emotional reach far beyond his previous incarnations of the genre. Because here, the actor intends to honor the history of his ancestors.

A project that is both personal and authentic

For Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett – co-creator and screenwriter of the series – Chief of War is much more than just a big-budget production for a streaming platform. For them, it’s about highlighting the unification of the Hawaiian peoples against the Western invaders of the 18th century, a part of history almost unknown throughout the world. This series is presented as a true homage: “It’s a bit like my Braveheart or my Dances with Wolves,” Momoa emphasized in an interview with Men’s Health two years ago.

The actor plays Ka’iana, a noble Hawaiian warrior ready to do anything to unite the islands and preserve his people’s heritage from the colonial threat. The story will be told from the natives' point of view for greater emotion and authenticity. The program will be carried by a primarily Polynesian cast, with big names such as Temuera Morrison, whom pop culture enthusiasts will recognize for his roles as Jango and Boba Fett in the Star Wars saga.

When and how to watch this new series?

Chief of War will begin broadcasting worldwide on August 1, 2025, on Apple TV+. Two episodes will be available on day one, while the following seven will be released weekly until September 19.

Apple TV+ is available as a direct subscription for €9.99 per month. However, French viewers can also access the platform's catalog from any Canal+ subscription, at no extra cost. This is an opportunity to remind you that the service offers some of the best television and film productions of recent years, such as Severance, The Studio and Killers of the Flower Moon.
