Clair Obscur Expedition 33: A major update that disappoints players

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is on everyone's lips. The Sandfall RPG is a real hit, and while there was little doubt about its wow factor when it was released, it's hard to imagine such a craze. Millions of players have embarked on the adventure and put the gameplay to the test. Clair Obscur offers a strong strategic dimension with a very interesting build structure. However, players have gone too far and even broken the game a little (a lot). With this big update, the studio is taking the opportunity to fix all that, even if it disappoints a lot of players.

Warning, potential spoilers for the game's gameplay!

An inevitable nerf for this new update of Clair Obscur Expedition 33

If you have completed Clair Obscur Expedition 33, you know that it is possible to exceed the damage limit set at 9999 at the start of the game. Once this is done, you can then deal legendary damage with your characters. Some heroes, like Maelle or Sciel, can even blow up opponents with damage counted in millions, hundreds of millions and sometimes even... billions.

One skill in particular allowed you to inflict very, very high damage for very little: Stendhal, an ability of Maelle's. The teenager could thus inflict colossal damage without much effort and thus pulverize the most powerful bosses of the endgame. Well aware of this, the developers decided to cut the legs of many builds and thus reduce the damage of the skill, much to the dismay of the players who, for many, are really disappointed because they had so much fun atomizing everything.

This decision was not taken lightly. Sandfall explained that they had unfairly boosted the skill after not really managing to balance it during development. The developers claim that the latter should therefore be powerful, but certainly not as much as it is today. Revising it downwards was therefore inevitable, although the studio did not intend to look at balancing until much later.
