Luspiciously rendered on Unreal Engine 5, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a true visual work of art. However, it requires a very solid PC configuration to fully appreciate all its exquisite beauty. More modest machines can therefore suffer from major performance problems, like the console versions of the game. On PC, however, there is now a mod that can somewhat erase this problem, while waiting for further optimizations from Sandfall Interactive.

Despite a small team of just under thirty people, Sandfall Interactive has delivered a beautiful masterpiece with its very first game. Already with over 2 million sales, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is one of the biggest surprises of the year, which could well win numerous awards at The Game Awards 2025 and similar ceremonies. However, a big shadow on this superb picture could spoil the experience on consoles and not very well-equipped PCs: graphics under Unreal Engine 5 are very demanding.
While waiting for future updates to remedy this, the modder Bighead has cracked "Expedition 33 - Unreal Config Tool ". As its name suggests, it is presented as a tool for configuring various parameters of Unreal Engine 5, otherwise inaccessible to players. This allows you to more precisely configure the graphics settings of Clair Obscur Expedition 33, in order to obtain better overall performance, or conversely push the title even further to its visual limits.
If, however, you are not comfortable with this type of tool, the mod offers various presets already fully configured, making it very easy to use. As a mod, it is unfortunately only available on the PC version of Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Note that it is fully compatible with the Steam version of the game, but also its Xbox Game Pass counterpart. You can download it via its Nexus Mods page, cited in the source below, and its installation is simply done via an executable. The tool itself takes the form of an old-fashioned window well known on most PC games of the time.
