Cyberpunk 2: A major secret may have been revealed in advance

In a recent interview, Mike Pondsmith, the original creator of the role-playing game that inspired Cyberpunk 2077, revealed some juicy details about its sequel, Cyberpunk 2. We learned, among other things, that we could be treated to a huge playground. In addition to Night City, we should indeed be able to visit a version of Chicago "gone wrong." In light of this revelation, an element present from the start in the first game takes on a whole new meaning.

Did CD Projekt RED have already planned everything in advance for Cyberpunk 2?

For now, only called Project Orion internally, what is commonly known as Cyberpunk 2 is quietly continuing its development in the CD Projekt RED offices in the United States, more precisely in Boston. The sequel to the Polish studio's dystopian RPG, however, is not expected to be released for many years, with priority currently being given to The Witcher 4, which is not expected to arrive before 2027/2028 at the earliest.

However, we already have some ideas about CD Projekt RED's crazy ambitions for Cyberpunk 2. This sequel should notably take us to no less than two cities: Night City, and a dystopian version of Chicago. The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 should also "better highlight its American roots." It should also deliver a nice graphical slap thanks to Unreal Engine 5, and potentially integrate multiplayer elements. Finally, according to an advertisement present from the start in the first opus, we may already know in which year Cyberpunk 2 will take place.

At the controls of V in 2077, we can indeed come across an advertising poster. It reads: "Travel from Chicago to Night City in under three hours, worry-free. Available in 2080." So, it could well be that Cyberpunk 2 takes place between 2080 and 2089, and that the corresponding year is the subtitle of the 2077 sequel. Unless that's its actual release date, but we dare hope not. This would also indicate that CD Projekt RED had a well-established plan for Cyberpunk 2 for years. Which wouldn't be surprising in itself. Of course, we'll have to wait for further official revelations to be sure.
