Doom The Dark Ages is availableon PS5, Xbox Series, but also on PC. It can be downloaded on Steam as well as on the Xbox app. Like all Bethesda games, it is available in Game Pass. No need to pay full price, then, since a subscription is enough to enjoy the full game.
What's new in Doom The Dark Ages?
Doom The Dark Ages features a setting that's new in the franchise: a fantasy Middle Ages that mixes fantasy and science fiction. This allowed ID Software to let loose with the settings and enemies. But even more, it's at the gameplay level, in keeping with this brutal backdrop, that the most profound changes have been made.

The fights are more nervous and less choppy than in Doom Eternal, notably with the modification of the glory kill mechanic which brought a pause in the clashes. If it is still there, it is rarer, and therefore more precious. Even more, the Doomslayer is now equipped with a shield which allows him to parry attacks, plant it in enemies, rush into the fray or even explode the shields of ugly bad guys. A real game changer that profoundly changes the dynamics of fights.
Thus, The Dark Ages is nothing like its predecessors, since it adopts a completely different feel.
Do you have to have played the previous Doom games to enjoy The Dark Ages?
Doom The Dark Ages is actually a prequel to 2016's Doom. It is therefore not necessary to have played the latter, or even Eternal (2020), to enjoy it, especially since the storyline is anecdotal. What's more, there is no need to have any gameplay experience, since each episode offers a new way to play. In short, if this is your first Doom, it's not a problem.
