The animated series Eyes of Wakanda is revealed a little more with new visuals of the warriors of the Wakandan nation, at the center of the project expected this summer on Disney+.
Eyes of Wakanda, the animated series of the summer for Marvel
While all the spotlight is on the film Thunderbolts*, and this summer on Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 23 in theaters), Marvel is not forgetting the small screen and the field of animation with three series broadcast on Disney+. After Your Faithful Servant Spider-Man, and while waiting for Marvel Zombies, Marvel will offer MCU fans Eyes of Wakanda, an animated series that will tell the adventures of the Hatut Zeraze, a unit of elite warriors tasked with recovering fragments of Vibranium, the precious metal, from around the world. This new series, produced by Ryan Coogler (who already directed the two Black Panther films), will consist of four episodes.
Ryan Coogler chose the prism of animation to depict the different eras traversed by the warriors more easily and less expensively than a live-action film, which, on the other hand, requires too much special effects. Integrated into the canon of the 616 universe, the events of the series will be an integral part of the MCU timeline. This will undoubtedly be an opportunity to see some faces and places well-known to Marvel fans.
New images of Eyes of Wakanda
The series has already been revealed through a few images, depicting the warriors of Wakanda, and hinting at a hand-painted visual style. Two new faces make their appearance today. The characters of Noni (voiced by Winnie Harlow) and The Lion (Cress Williams) were revealed by Marvel, along with some fighters on a ship adorned with a lion's head.
Showrunner Todd Harris took the opportunity to talk to Entertainment Weekly about the future story and the subgenres it will embrace, such as the spy film. "The story begins at the end of the Bronze Age in the West, and that spark ignites this gigantic spy story that resonates through time... We find a James Bond worthy of Wakanda, with all the splendor of Wakanda." The showrunner also drew a parallel between the defenders of the Wakandan nation and the American CIA.
The first episode will be screened on June 9, 2025 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, as part of a special event, just two months before its launch on Disney+ on August 6, 2025.
