While we all know Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Captain America, the Marvel universe is full of particularly strange characters. The proof is in these 15 totally WTF characters that you might not have known.
15) Ruby Thursday
Created in 1976 by Sal Buscema, Ruby Thursday is a supervillain named after the eponymous song by Rolling Stone. A funny tribute when you see the character's totally WTF characteristics. Ruby Thursday is a scientist who has grafted an organic computer in place of her head. This red spherical mass is composed of organic circuits. This new cranium can change at will and take the form of different weapons. It can project bursts of energy and has knowledge of engineering and robotics.
14) Doop
The strangest characters in the House of Ideas often intervene on the side of mutants and the X-Men. The proof is with Doop, this little green being who makes everyone believe that he is a mutant. Created in 2001, Doop is said to be the result of military experience during the Cold War. What Doop likes is to pick up a camera and film the exploits of the X-Men (yes, you read that right). As for his powers, we don't really know the extent of his abilities. Doop unlocks powers based on his needs and desires. Powers that range from regeneration to physical malleability, including flight and metamorphosis. He can even swallow any kind of object that he then keeps in his body. In short, he seems to know how to do everything. As for his language, Doop speaks a strange and incomprehensible language to others that seems to be inspired by all existing languages called Dopspeak. Fans have been trying to decipher this language for years.
13) Hellcow
Hellcow, also known as Bessie, first appeared in 1975. Basically, Bessie is a simple cow. But, in 1675, she was given as an offering to Dracula. He transformed her into a vampire cow. Since then, Bessie has terrorized humans, particularly enjoying their blood. Hellcow later became a recurring antagonist of Howard the Duck. A character who could have joined this list if he weren't so famous.
12) Bliss
Created in 1983, Bliss is a Morlock, a race of mutants who live hidden underground. They are considered unattractive mutants, physically ungrateful, and refuse to show themselves in the light of day. Their name was chosen in homage to the novel by H.G. Wells. Bliss has a hyperlax jaw, which gives her an almost horrific appearance. Inside this mouth, she has a tongue with a face (much like a Xenomorph), with her own eyes, nose, and mouth (and even her own tongue). And in real life, it's definitely terrifying.
11) Mandrill
Created in 1973, Mandrill is a very problematic character today, and we'll explain why. Originally, Frederick Beechman was working in a nuclear power plant when an accident caused an explosion. An explosion that caused a change in his body. Today, Frederick Beechman looks like a large bonobo. His strength, agility, and sense of balance rival those of a gorilla. But what's really problematic about this character is that he releases pheromones that subjugate any woman who approaches him. Yes, Mandrill is a big misogynistic charo…
10) Hindsight
Carlton LaFroyge doesn't really have any superheroic abilities. Created in 2017, this character basically has the ability to analyze different situations and their consequences. He can't anticipate actions, which would be a bit useful. No, no, he can simply see that this or that action would have led to a better outcome. To put it simply, he's the equivalent of Captain Constat, the cult character from South Park.
9) Glob Herman
Glob Herman is a mutant who made his first appearance in 2001. Created by Grant Morrison, he is a character whose skin is replaced by a sort of transparent wax. As a result, all of his internal organs can be seen. He has enlarged strength and a highly flammable body.
8) Maggott
Created in 1997, Maggott is (yet again) a mutant like no other. Originally from South Africa, Maggott spent his entire childhood suffering from very violent digestive problems. He could not ingest anything without becoming ill. When he was about to die in the desert, Maggott was saved by Magneto. When he developed his mutant powers, Maggott gave birth to two horrible giant slugs. These served as his mobile digestive system. Called Eany and Meany, they can devour anything in their path.
7) Eye-Scream
First appearing in 1983, Eye-Scream is a mutant who has the ability to transform into any ice cream. He can even choose the flavor of his ice cream. What more do you want us to add to that?
6) Orb
Orb first appeared in 1973. But we had to wait until 2008 to see the new version of the character. Orb is a supervillain who has a giant eye in place of a head. While Orb doesn't have any powers per se, he did manage to seriously injure Uatu during the Original Sin crossover to steal one of his eyes. Thanks to the Guardian's eye, he now possesses an incredible cosmic memory.
5) Zeitgeist
Alex Cluney, you've already met him in Deadpool 2. He's a mutant, a member of the X-Force, whose ability is to vomit acid on his enemies. He can eat and dissolve any substance. His vomit can penetrate 10cm thick steel in less than 30 seconds.
4) Penance
Robbie Baldwin is originally known as the superhero Speedball, a member of the New Warriors. But following Civil War, Robbie Baldwin is left for dead after his confrontation with Nitro, who is responsible for starting the superhero Civil War. A few years later, Robbie Baldwin reappeared as Penance, a dark character straight out of an episode of the Hellraiser saga. For his powers to materialize, Penance must hurt himself. A true masochist, he wears armor that constantly tortures him. Armor composed of 612 small spikes that constantly tear off his skin. 612 is the number of victims of Stamford when Speedball crossed paths with Nitro. A way for Robbie Baldwin to accept his penance and suffer eternally for his mistake against the supervillain. Dark!
3) Forbush Man
Conceived in 1967 by Stan Lee himself, Forbush Man is a character with a saucepan on his head. Initially, the character has no powers, but more recently Marvel has given him the ability to project deadly hallucinations into the minds of his victims. A power that is normally blocked by his helmet.
2) Explodey Boy
Created in 2020, Explodey Boy is a young mutant whose power is to explode... only once. In the series Empyre: X-Men (2020), a zombie version of Explodey Boy sacrifices himself by blowing himself up for the first and last time to save the others.
1) Throg
This is probably the most famous character on this list. Throg is a variant of Thor. Basically, Simon Walterson is a normal human. But when he is transformed into a frog by Loki, he becomes worthy of wielding Mjolnir. Long story short, Throg is a frog with Thor's powers. The character makes a brief appearance in the first season of Loki.
