Oppo launches yet another smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch

Oppo launches yet another smartwatch to compete with the Apple Watch

Eight months after the Watch X, Oppo is back with a new smartwatch: the Watch X2. Priced a few dozen euros more than the previous one, it boasts several essential new features to compete with the latest generations of Apple Watch. Here are the changes made by Oppo in detail.

Almost a year ago, Oppo officially announced its return to France. A dramatic turn of events after a little over a year of absence following the closure of its exclusive distributor in France. Since then, the Chinese brand has gradually relaunched its catalog. First the affordable ranges, with the Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro, then the Reno 13 and Reno 13 Pro, without forgetting the A range. Then the high-end smartphones with the Find X8 Pro. You can find the tests of the main models in our columns.

To perfect the experience, Oppo has also relaunched its accessory ranges: Enco earphones and smartwatches. This started in September 2024 with the Watch X, Oppo's first watch with a circular screen. It runs on Wear OS. It benefits from a stainless steel case, a 500 mAh battery, and a Snapdragon W5 gen 1 processor. It was launched at 320 euros. That's around a hundred euros less than the Apple Watch Series 10. And that could have been a good deal. Except that it was still missing a few features.

Oppo is already replacing the Watch X with a new smartwatch

Eight months later, Oppo is replacing the Watch X with a new smartwatch called simply the Watch X2. This watch benefits from several improvements. The first of these is the ECG. This was sorely missing from the Watch X. Oppo is finally bringing it to its new smartwatch. The same goes for the thermometer, which unlocks several body tracking functions, including cycle tracking. The oximeter and heart rate monitor are obviously back.

Another big change is the screen. It's slightly larger: 1.5 inches versus 1.43 inches. It's still AMOLED, but it's now LTPO, to reduce power consumption. The definition doesn't change (so the resolution drops a little). The peak brightness increases to 2000 nits. Around this screen, you'll find a titanium frame. This is the first time Oppo has used this material in a watch.

Oppo promises 5 days of battery life for the Watch X2

Finally, the last major change is that the battery capacity has increased from 500 mAh to 648 mAh. The battery life is announced at 5 days with default settings. Charging power remains at 7.5 watts, with the brand announcing a full charge in 80 minutes. Oppo is also taking the opportunity to implement a new version of Wear OS, numbered 5.0. It serves as the basis for a new user interface called ColorOS Wear, here numbered 7.0. It includes the 60-second health check like the very recent Huawei Watch 5, but also a hundred training programs (including 6 with automatic detection).

Of course, some elements remain the same. The release of the Watch X2 is not far enough away from that of the Watch X. We therefore find the same platform, the Snapdragon W5 gen 1, also accompanied here by 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Likewise, dual-band GPS and Wi-Fi 5 are also back, while Bluetooth is upgraded from 5.0 to 5.2.

The Watch X2 costs more, but not as much as an Apple Watch

On the chassis side, the stainless steel case and synthetic sapphire screen protector are back. The sensor area is made of glass surrounded by plastic. The watch also retains its MIL-STD-810H and IP68 certifications against water and dust. Note that the watch is not thicker, despite the new battery: it is even a little thinner by 0.3 mm. It is available in two colors: black and blue. Finally, standard 140-210 mm straps remain compatible.

The Oppo Watch X2 will be available on June 2, 2025 only in the brand's online store, before gradually arriving in the usual stores. Its price is set at 380 euros. That's 50 euros more than the previous model. But this inflation is, in our opinion, justified by the new features. While remaining cheaper than an Apple Watch. Is the price-quality ratio good? We will confirm this with our future full test.
