If you have an Instagram or Facebook account, you've probably received an email from Meta informing you that as of the end of May 2025, the firm will use your personal data to train the company's artificial intelligence. If you don't want your information used in this context, you can object. But be careful, you only have until May 27 to express your consent. We'll explain how to do it.
Your public data on Facebook and Instagram will be used by Meta's AI
Indeed, if you are a user of Facebook and Instagram, social platforms that belong to the American group Meta, be aware that if you do not object to the use of your personal data to train the company's AI, then everything you publish on these networks may be used by Meta. Thus, as the CNIL points out, it is all your information that can be found in public publications such as text, photos and comments or even information from exchanges made with the Meta AI chatbot or questions asked on Messenger, that Meta will enjoy using.
The objective of Zuckerberg's empire is to satiate the systems that manage Meta AI to improve the answers provided to users' questions. And above all, to improve ad targeting!
To oppose this Facebook decision, here's the process
Please note that if you don't want Facebook and Instagram to use your personal data for AI, it's entirely possible to object. The group has already sent emails to inform users of this new development. If you haven't received anything, we'll explain the process to object. The European Union provides that it is legal to object to this.
To object to the use of your public information to train Meta's AI, simply go to this page, which you can find in the Settings and Privacy tab of your Facebook and Instagram accounts. Then, remember to check that the email address indicated on the page is the one associated with your account and then click Send. A few minutes later, you will receive an email confirming that your objection has been taken into account.
Please note, you only have until Tuesday, May 27, 2025 to do this. Note that even if you object, you will still be able to access Meta's artificial intelligence tools. However, if your friends have not objected, then the interactions you have with them may be recovered. Finally, note that data in WhatsApp is not, for the time being, affected.
