While we know that a Fallout 5 is definitely in the works at Bethesda, we also know that it's unlikely to be released for a long time. The studio is currently fully focused on the equally highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6, which itself isn't expected to arrive until at least 2028, according to Xbox insider Colt Eastwood. A new report from him gives us some potential clues about the fate of the fifth installment in the legendary post-apocalyptic franchise. And that could be a radioactive shower for many fans.
Fallout 5 could be staying in its Vault for a very long time...
Counting the controversial Fallout 76 at its release, which has thankfully made up for lost time since then, fans of Bethesda's post-apocalyptic franchise have been orphaned for seven years now. Fortunately, there are good alternatives to keep you waiting, such as STALKER 2, Atomfall, and excellent mods such as Fallout London. But as for a real Fallout 5, with a new story, improved gameplay, and, above all, truly next-gen visuals, there has been deafening radio silence for many, many years.
Bethesda is currently putting all its might into the colossal project that is The Elder Scrolls 6. But while it's not expected to be released for a few more years, what about Fallout 5? In the absence of official information, Xbox insider Colt Eastwood has released a new report on the subject. According to him, a fifth installment powered by the latest version of the Creation Engine, also used on Starfield, would not arrive "for five or six years", that is, around... 2030.
A prospect that definitely hurts those waiting for a truly next-gen Fallout 5, ten years after a Fallout 4 that is seriously showing its age, despite a "next-gen" patch released last year, with controversial results. However, this report from Colt Eastwood should be taken with a grain of salt. The insider has indeed shared several reports that turned out to be true, but others less so. So all that remains is to wait patiently in a Vault for Bethesda to decide to break its very long silence regarding Fallout 5, in a future that seems more or less distant.
