Fantastic Four: First Steps… and First Spoilers for the Marvel Movie

Avengers: Infinity War, Shrek, or even the return of Superman in Justice League, we can no longer count the number of times the giants of the toy industry have spilled the beans too early. A Thor figurine with an axe to replace his broken hammer, Princess Fiona as an ogress at Burger King, or even the real name of the character played by Jude Law in Captain Marvel, derivative products are often a goldmine of information for the most impatient spectators.

Fantastic Four, eagerly awaited by fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is no exception. The announcement of the upcoming release of Funko Pop products confirms the presence of a character that the promotional images had not entirely mentioned. While comic book readers already knew the details of this part of the plot, the company specializing in the sale of figurines with large eyes and disproportionate heads may have given too much away.

To accompany the release of Matt Shakman's film, Marvel is once again partnering with Funko and will be releasing figurines featuring Reed Richards, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. Nothing surprising so far, as the three characters are at the heart of this reboot. It's the box dedicated to Susan Storm that poses a problem. The invisible woman appears alongside a child, named Franklin. Comic book readers know that this is the Storm-Richards' first baby. In the trailer, we simply learned that the heroine was pregnant with her first child. In the comics, Franklin Richards appeared for the first time in 1968 in Fantastic Four Annual #6. He is presented as a completely normal baby, but gradually develops powers. He can manipulate reality, teleport, and project energy. Throughout his glossy adventures, he crosses paths with several iconic characters from the comics, starting with Mephisto. The links between the two characters are tenuous, is Kevin Feige finally preparing the arrival of the demonic entity that WandaVision viewers imagined to be at the origin of the Scarlet Witch's problems on Disney+?

Answer soon, with the release of Fantastic Four: Beginnings. The film is expected in theaters on July 23. The narrative shouldn't involve evoking Mephisto; the film already has a lot on its plate. It must immortalize the Silver Surfer as she warns Reed Richards' team of Galactus's imminent arrival. At the same time, the film will have to lay the groundwork for Avengers: Doomsday. It will likely do so, through a post-credits scene, giving viewers a first glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. as Doom.
