After years of tentative iterations, Samsung finally appears ready to make some significant changes to its foldable lineup, particularly the Galaxy Z Fold 7. According to new leaks, the device will adopt a wider design, breaking away from the narrow outer bezels that have long differentiated the Fold from its rivals. Seen another way, this new direction would bring this Samsung device closer to its rivals.
A wider and thinner Fold 7, a more conservative Flip 7
CAD files obtained by SamMobile reveal the exact dimensions: when unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 would measure 158.43 x 143.14 x 4.54 mm (9 mm folded). This is still thicker than some competitors like the Oppo Find N5 (160.9 x 146.6 x 4.21 mm), but still represents a notable improvement over the Z Fold 6 (153.5 x 132.6 x 5.6 mm).
In parallel, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which would benefit of a Full Cover screen, would remain more conservative in its dimensions. They would be very close to those of the previous model, with 166.61 x 75.23 x 6.84 mm. As a reminder, the Flip 6 measures 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm.
Exynos' return to the forefront?
Another point addressed by SamMobile concerns the processor. Samsung has reportedly decided to equip the Z Flip 7 with the Exynos 2500 in most markets, including South Korea and India. This range would therefore mark a significant return of the Korean firm's in-house chip. However, the North American and Chinese models would receive a Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Our colleague partly explains this choice by the heat generated by the Snapdragon chip within a very thin smartphone, like the Galaxy S25 Edge. However, this argument is unconvincing, as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 would be equipped with the Qualcomm chip everywhere in the world. Furthermore, it does not justify the geographical disparity. In short, a priori, it is mainly commercial and logistical considerations that prevail.
The formal answer to all these questions should arrive in July, the expected period for the official announcement of these Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 — or perhaps even a little before, via new leaks.
