What if editing a photo became as easy as sending a text message? Google is launching AI photo editing in Gemini, and even your grandmother could get involved.
Google has just added an AI photo studio to its Gemini app. Available now for gradual rollout, this feature lets you edit any image, personal or AI-generated, via simple text queries. Adding a hat to a dog, transforming a lawn into a beach, or testing a radical hair color: everything is handled in natural language, without complex software.
The tool maintains context between each modification, allowing for cascading adjustments. You ask for a seabed? Gemini complies. Then you add a dolphin? The AI integrates the element without starting all over again. Useful for refining the result until you are satisfied.

What about security?
In terms of transparency, Google applies SynthID watermarking, an invisible signature, to all modified images. The giant is also testing an "ai" logo visible in the bottom right, to clarify the artificial origin of the photos. A precaution shared with OpenAI, which equips its GPT-4o creations with C2PA metadata.
But Gemini isn't just Photoshop. The application mixes text and visuals for more ambitious projects. Imagine generating a children's story about dragons, with step-by-step illustrations. A scenario already highlighted by Google, which sees this feature as a versatile creative tool.

The rollout starts today in more than 45 languages and most countries, with a ramp-up over several weeks. Enough time for the AI to hone its skills... or make a few colorful blunders.
It remains to be seen whether users will massively adopt this intuitive editor. Even those who aren't comfortable with technology might have a chance to edit images. One thing's for sure: with Gemini, Google is getting a head start in the multimodal AI race. And your photo gallery better watch out.
