After the driver's license and the electronic identity card, which will soon replace paper documents in certain situations, it's now the turn of the Carte Vitale (Health Insurance Card) to arrive on smartphones. Since March, the application has been accessible throughout France, provided you have a France Identité ID. For those who do not yet have access to the digital wallet, a second, independent activation method has been set up. Until now reserved for 23 departments, the system has just doubled its scope.
Which departments are concerned?
In its official press release, the CPAM indicates that “all departments in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Grand-Est, Normandy, Pays de la Loire and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions, i.e. 46 departments, will now be covered.”
Activation is open to anyone affiliated with a Health Insurance, MSA or MGN organization, who has an insured account and a valid identity document. Activation without France Identité requires a facial recognition step, which is currently quite laborious.
How to do it?
If you live in one of these departments (you must also be over 16 and not under guardianship), you can already test the digital health card. Simply bring your card, or failing that, your social security number, then prove your identity by scanning a national identity card or passport. Please note: your smartphone must be running iOS 7 or Android 12 or later to support the application.
Dematerialized health card, what's it for?
Contrary to all logic, the digital health card is not — for the moment — intended to replace the green card. The project currently allows you to keep a digital copy of the document on your smartphone. Using the digital Carte Vitale with a healthcare professional is possible, but they will first need to have compatible software, which is far from being the case for everyone. Again, they will be equipped over time.
Also, the application already allows you to bridge the gap between your healthcare journey and your Ameli account. From the smartphone interface, it is possible to view the history of your healthcare expenses and reimbursements. Eventually, we can therefore imagine that the digital Carte Vitale will replace the Ameli application, and its unreliable interface. The good news is that it can be used without an internet connection, to facilitate monitoring of the healthcare journey anywhere, including in blackout areas.
How to download the Carte Vitale application?
For the moment, the deployment of the Cafte Vitale application is taking place in stages. The software is already available for download from the Google and Apple online stores. You can find all the links to the Carte Vitale applications at telecharger.com.
