The delay of GTA 6 sent shockwaves through the industry. However, a few days later, the second trailer reignited fans' enthusiasm. And now Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent company), has hammered it home: GTA 6 aims for nothing less than the absolute pinnacle of entertainment.
A colossal goal for GTA 6
In a recent interview, Zelnick didn't mince his words about GTA 6. According to him, Rockstar wants to create "the best thing ever seen in entertainment." Not just in video games. In all things entertainment. It's obviously a huge promise. But coming from a studio that has already made history with GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2, this kind of statement attracts attention.
Initially scheduled for late 2025, GTA 6 is now expected for May 26, 2026. This delay is not related to major technical issues, according to Take-Two. Rather, it is a deliberate choice to fine-tune every detail. Rockstar prefers to take its time. The studio has always put quality before deadlines. And Zelnick reminds us, they have never had a "cult of the release date." If a game needs to be released later to be better, they don't hesitate.
A habit at Rockstar
This isn't the first time Rockstar has delayed a game. GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were also delayed before being released with great fanfare. And in both cases, the results more than justified the wait. Zelnick remains confident. He says that when a date is officially announced, they do everything they can to keep it. We can therefore hope that May 26, 2026, is the right one. But as always with this kind of production, nothing is set in stone.
Development of GTA 6 reportedly began in earnest in 2020. Five years later, the project continues to grow. And Rockstar doesn't seem to be in a hurry to rush anything. Two trailers have already been unveiled, generating millions of views in a matter of hours. But for the rest, the mystery remains. The studio is keeping its secrets, as usual. It remains to be seen whether the final objective, as stated, will be achieved.
